Saving Zimbabwe: Life, Death and Hope in Africa by Bob Scott tells the moving true story of a multiracial Christian community formed in Zimbabwe during the 1980s. Amid political upheaval and deep racial divides following the country’s independence, this group—known as the Community of Reconciliation—sought to live out a radical vision of unity, peace, and shared humanity. Their goal was to model a new way forward for a nation still healing from its colonial past.

Tragically, their mission came to a devastating end on November 25, 1987, when sixteen white members of the community were murdered. Their killers believed they were striking a blow for liberation, but the result was greater poverty, fear, and oppression for the very people the act was meant to free. Scott recounts these events with sensitivity and clarity, exploring both the historical context and the personal stories of those involved.

At its core, this is a story of faith, sacrifice, and the enduring struggle for reconciliation. Scott argues that true healing in Zimbabwe—and in any divided society—must begin in the hearts of individuals. Saving Zimbabwe is a powerful reflection on justice, love, and the cost of living according to one’s deepest convictions. First published in 2009, it remains a poignant and timely read.
