Born on January 20, 1904, in Fort Beaufort, Cape Colony, Stumbles moved to Southern Rhodesia in 1913 and later became a prominent lawyer and politician. As Speaker, he notably accepted the Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) in 1965, a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.
