Bruce Campbell's life-long interest in birds won him medals in the Essay competition of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds while he was still at school, and his PhD was the first British degree awarded to a study of British birds. More recently he held the post of Secretary of the British Trust for Ornithology for eleven years and at present is an editorial advisor on wildlife and conservation, as well as being Chairman of the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Naturalists` Trust. He has published many scientific papers and books on ornithology
