GAMEBIRDS OF SOUTHERN AFRICA by P. A. Clancy
The aim of this present work is not to provide a vade mecum for the game conservator or propagator, or the specialist in a few selected species of readily available ducks and so-called geese, but is designed to furnish a digest of the available information on the plumages, biological patterns and nesting habits or nidification of all the major sporting birds occurring in southern Africa to the south of the Cunene, Okavango and Zambezi Rivers. It is hoped that by making this information freely available to sportsmen and landowners in general a contribution to the wise exploitation and conservation of this important recreational and food resource will have been made. By its publication impetus may somehow be given to the gathering of further data relative to a greater understanding of the biology of these outstanding birds, which it is hoped will necessitate the preparation of a more ambitious and authoritative work along similar lines in the years ahead.
