Birds of East Africa vol 1 & 2 by C.A.W Guggisberg

ZAR 100.00

Vol 1 - Non-Passerines

Vol 2 - Passerines

C. A. W. GUGGISBERG (1913-1980) was Swiss, but wanted to come to Africa ever since he was a boy. After studying zoology, geology and botany at the Berne University and having to wait for the duration of the war (during which time he met his future wife and later collaborator), the two came out to East Africa in 1946, first to then Tanganyika and in 1948, to Kenya, where he joined the Division of Insect-borne Diseases of the Medical Research Laboratory in Nairobi. He was with the Kenya Government for 22 years, before retiring and devoting his whole time to writing and wild-life studies. He wrote many books, covering a wide range of subjects dealing with wild life and its conservation. At the time of his death he was making the last corrections on the second volume of this present work, dealing with the Passerines. It is hoped to bring it out posthumously.

MALCOLM ELLIS, who did the illustrations for this book, is British, both a gifted artist and a keen ornithologist who collected the material not only in natural history museums, but also in course of many safaris in East Africa.
