The Bird Faunas of Africa and its Islands by RE Moreau

ZAR 300.00

As it stands, its title might suggest that it is addressed only to ornithologists. This is far from being so. However imperfectly I present it, the complex picture provided by the bird faunas of Africa, on an immense canvas, is of the utmost relevance to all those who are concerned with natural history, whether they are amateurs or professional zoologists. It offers many illustrations of biological problems and principles and of the consequences of a succession of sweeping ecological changes. I may add that I have chosen my title partly as a warning that it will not give any intimate studies of particular birds, but will deal rather with groups; and I use the words "bird fauna" with a wide range of meanings- from the bird community in a certain habitat or a circumscribed area of that habitat to the sum total of bird species in a geographical area, however large or small.
