African Tribal Female Figure – Hand-Carved Wooden Sculpture with Scarification (46.5cm)

A striking hand-carved African tribal female figure sculpted from a single piece of hardwood, displaying the bold stylised forms and symbolic features that characterise traditional African carving. This impressive sculpture stands 46.5 cm high and portrays a standing female holding a small vessel, a motif commonly associated with fertility, nurturing, and the carrying of offerings or ceremonial objects.

The figure features an elongated neck supporting an expressive head with oversized almond-shaped eyes, an open mouth, and a distinctive centrally raised crested hairstyle. Fine carved scarification in flowing wave patterns adorns the breasts, while a simple wire necklace remains around the neck, adding further character. The restrained yet powerful carving style emphasises the spiritual rather than naturalistic qualities valued in many traditional African cultures.

Carved entirely from a single block of hardwood, this African Tribal Female Figure sculpture has developed a warm, naturally aged patina through years of handling. Its elegant proportions and clean lines make it equally suitable for display in an ethnographic collection, modern interior, gallery, or lodge setting.

Measuring approximately 46.5 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 12 cm deep, this is an excellent decorative and collectible example of traditional African tribal art that will appeal to collectors of ethnographic artefacts and hand-carved African sculpture.
