Kokugyo ’79 (國魚) – The National Fish – 11th All Japan Combined Nishikigoi Show Commemorative Album
A rare commemorative album recording the 11th All Japan Combined Nishikigoi Show, compiled by the Zen Nippon Nishikigoi Shinkokai (All Japan Nishikigoi Dealers Association) and published on 20 June 1979 (Showa 54) by Yokoyama Kogyo Co., Ltd. of Tokyo, who also printed and bound it. Edited by 金井賢雄 and Susumu Shoji (庄子進), with editorial design by the Nonaka Design Office, and photography by Susumu Shoji and 川崎敏之. The original Japanese retail price was ¥40,000 – a measure of the lavishness of the production.
At 351 pages Kokugyo ’79 is one of the most substantial of the early All Japan show yearbooks issued under the simple title Kokugyo – “National Fish” – and carries the association’s koi emblem on the title page. It presents the prize-winning koi of the 11th show, a valuable record of the champion fish and breeders of the late 1970s koi boom in Japan. Text predominantly in Japanese, with some English.
