In Search of History – A Personal Adventure is the autobiography of Theodore H. White, the American journalist and historian best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning series The Making of the President. This copy is the first British edition, published by Jonathan Cape, 30 Bedford Square, London, in 1979 and manufactured in the United States of America.
In In Search of History, White traces his path from a Boston boyhood and Harvard, where he studied history, to his years as a correspondent in wartime China, his reporting on the recovery of postwar Europe, and his long career chronicling American politics. Along the way he offers personal recollections of many of the leading figures of the twentieth century.
White first won wide attention as a war correspondent in China and as co-author of Thunder Out of China, and went on to write Fire in the Ashes and Breach of Faith: The Fall of Richard Nixon. In Search of History brings these experiences together in one engaging personal account, written by a reporter who watched history being made at close quarters.
