All in a Day’s Cricket – An Anthology of Outstanding Cricket Writing, compiled by Brian Levison, is a fascinating collection celebrating the history, personalities, traditions and enduring appeal of cricket. First published in 2012, this 2014 paperback edition brings together an outstanding selection of cricket literature, offering readers a rich variety of observations, memories, anecdotes and reflections on the game.

Featuring contributions from some of cricket’s greatest players and most respected writers, All in a Day’s Cricket includes the words of Sir Ian Botham, Frank Tyson, Ranjitsinhji, W. G. Grace, John Arlott, Sir Neville Cardus and C. L. R. James. These celebrated figures provide different perspectives on the sport, from the excitement of international competition to the traditions and personal experiences that have shaped cricket through the generations.

All in a Day’s Cricket also explores the often-overlooked people who make cricket possible, including umpires, groundsmen, scorers and spectators. Among the memorable contributions are Marcus Trescothick writing about his passion for cricket catalogues, Angus Fraser recalling his meeting with Nelson Mandela, Phil Tufnell discussing an unexpected haircut, and Rachael Heyhoe Flint reflecting on her pioneering appearance at Lord’s.

With a foreword by distinguished cricket commentator Christopher Martin-Jenkins, the book combines sporting history, literary excellence, humour and nostalgia. Its diverse selection of writing captures the character of cricket beyond the boundaries of the playing field.
