Animal Life in Southern Africa by D. J. Potgieter, P. C. du Plessis & S. H. Skaife

Animal Life in Southern Africa is a substantial and wide-ranging reference work devoted to the zoology and wildlife of Southern Africa. Compiled by D. J. Potgieter, P. C. du Plessis and renowned South African entomologist S. H. Skaife, this first edition was published by Nasou Limited in 1971 and brings together specialist contributions covering an exceptionally broad spectrum of animal life, from the simplest organisms through to mammals and humans.

Described as a comprehensive compilation of articles on zoology “from Protozoa to Man”, Animal Life in Southern Africa draws upon the expertise of an impressive group of prominent Southern African scientists and natural-history writers.

Illustrated throughout, including 44 pages in full colour, Animal Life in Southern Africa provides a broad survey of Southern African zoology and represents an interesting snapshot of regional scientific knowledge during the early 1970s. It is particularly suited to collectors of Africana, zoology, wildlife, entomology and Southern African natural-history books.

Condition – Very Good

Very good 1971 hardcover in a near fine original dust jacket. The green cloth boards show light shelf wear. The front endpaper has been removed, with tape residue and marks remaining on the inside front cover. Prior ownership is written in ink at the top of the title page. The dust jacket remains particularly attractive with light edge and corner wear, including minor rubbing and small areas of wear at the extremities. Binding remains sound and the volume otherwise presents well.
