Art South Africa Magazine – Vol. 07 Issue 01, Spring 2008, titled “Weighing the Africa in South Africa”, is a large-format softcover issue of the contemporary art magazine published by Bell-Roberts Publishing in Cape Town. Founded in 2002, Art South Africa (ARTsouthAFRICA) was the leading journal of South African contemporary art for more than a decade before it was relaunched as ART AFRICA in 2015.
The theme of this issue considers how South African art and artists relate to the rest of the continent, a question that ran through much of the critical writing of the period. Like every issue of Art South Africa, it combines essays, artist profiles, interviews and exhibition reviews, and is generously illustrated in colour throughout.
Back issues of Art South Africa are increasingly sought after as a record of the South African art scene in the years after 2000, capturing artists, galleries and debates at a formative time.
A worthwhile addition for collectors of South African art publications, art students, researchers, gallery owners and anyone interested in contemporary South African and African art.
Condition – Good
A good used copy of this softcover magazine. The covers show general rubbing and handling wear, with a few small scuffs and light creasing to the front board and wear to the edges and corners. The spine is intact and the binding is sound.
