Banner in the Sky by James Ramsey Ullman is a classic mountaineering adventure novel inspired by the first ascent of the Matterhorn. First published in the UK by Collins in 1955, this edition is bound in the original blue cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and retains its striking illustrated dust jacket.
Banner in the Sky follows sixteen-year-old Rudi Matt, whose father died attempting to conquer the last unconquered peak in the Alps. Determined to complete the climb and honour his father’s memory, Rudi sets out on a dangerous ascent of “The Citadel”, facing peril, fear and his own limitations along the way. A Newbery Honor title and later adapted into the Disney film “Third Man on the Mountain”, Banner in the Sky remains one of the best-loved mountain adventure novels of the twentieth century.
Condition – Very Good
The book is in a Good dust jacket. Original blue cloth boards are clean and bright with clear gilt to the spine. Internally the book is clean and sound throughout. There is a neat prior ownership inscription dated 29.11.55 on the front endpaper. The unclipped dust jacket has edge wear and several small chips and tears, particularly to the head of the spine and corners, but remains attractive and presents well in a protective sleeve.
