By the Waters of the Letaba by A. P. Cartwright is a richly written historical account of the Transvaal Lowveld, exploring the colourful personalities, explorers, pioneers, and natural history of one of South Africa’s most fascinating frontier regions. Drawing on historical records and personal narratives, By the Waters of the Letaba recreates the era when the Lowveld was a land of adventure, big game, and pioneering settlement.
First published in 1974 by Purnell & Sons (Cape Town, Johannesburg & London), the book remains a sought-after work of South African regional history and Africana literature. Cartwright, one of South Africa’s most respected historians and storytellers, brings the landscape and its people vividly to life, making By the Waters of the Letaba an essential title for collectors of Lowveld history, Kruger Park lore, and Africana exploration narratives.
This copy of By the Waters of the Letaba retains its original dust jacket and blue cloth boards with gilt spine lettering, presenting well on the shelf and making a desirable addition to any Africana or South African history collection.
Published by Purnell & Sons (Pty) Ltd., Cape Town in 1974.
Very good overall condition. The original dust jacket shows minor wear. Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine are slightly edge worn but remain strong and attractive. A prior ownership sticker is present on the front endpaper. Pages show some light age-related discoloration but remain clean, well bound, and fully legible.
