Choppertech: A Gunner’s Reflection of Fireforce Operations in Rhodesia 1976–1980 by Beaver Shaw is a sought-after Rhodesian military aviation memoir offering a rare first-hand account of helicopter gunship operations during the Rhodesian Bush War. Written by former Rhodesian Air Force crew member Beaver Shaw, this substantial illustrated volume of Choppertech provides a detailed insider perspective on Fireforce tactics, airborne counter-insurgency operations, helicopter warfare, and daily life within one of the most respected air arms in African military history.
Published in 2011, Choppertech is a signed and numbered limited edition, being copy No. 507 of only 1,000 produced, making it particularly desirable among collectors of Rhodesiana, military aviation, and African conflict history. The book is richly illustrated throughout with colour and black-and-white photographs, operational images, maps, and personal memorabilia that bring the period vividly to life.
Shaw recounts his experiences as a helicopter gunner serving in the Rhodesian Air Force during some of the most intense years of the conflict. Choppertech combines operational detail with personal reflections, providing valuable insight into Fireforce deployments, troop insertions, combat engagements, and the camaraderie of those who served.
Condition – Very Good
Glossy pictorial softcover remains clean, bright and highly presentable. There is a noticeable vertical bend/crease to the front cover near the fore-edge, together with light handling and shelf wear. The binding remains tight and square with no loose or damaged pages. Page edges are clean with only minor marks visible. Internally, the pages are bright, crisp and free from foxing, annotations, or significant defects. Signed by the author and numbered 507 of a limited edition of 1,000 copies. A well-preserved collector’s copy that displays very well despite the cover bend.
