Claude Monet by Nancy Nunhead

Claude Monet by Nancy Nunhead is a richly illustrated large-format art volume devoted to one of the most influential figures in the history of Impressionism. Published by Park Lane in 1994 and produced by Bison Books, this attractive hardcover provides an accessible introduction to Monet’s life, artistic development and remarkable contribution to modern painting.

Claude Monet became one of the defining artists of nineteenth-century France and a central figure in the Impressionist movement. His fascination with light, atmosphere, colour and the changing appearance of the natural world resulted in some of the most recognisable paintings in Western art. From landscapes and river scenes to gardens and his celebrated water-lily compositions, Monet repeatedly explored how a single subject could be transformed by changes in season, weather and time of day.

Nancy Nunhead places the artist and his work within their historical and artistic context while the generous large-format presentation allows Monet’s paintings to remain the principal attraction. Numerous colour reproductions make this particularly suitable as an introductory reference, coffee-table art book or addition to a collection devoted to Impressionism and European painting.

The illustrated boards reproduce Claude Monet’s work and give the volume an attractive presentation without the need for a separate dust jacket. A particularly appealing book for admirers of Monet, Impressionist art, French painting and nineteenth-century European art.
