David Bomberg – Richard Cork

Published to accompany the landmark 1988 retrospective at the Tate Gallery, David Bomberg by Richard Cork remains one of the most important references on the life and work of one of Britain’s most influential twentieth-century artists. Richly illustrated throughout, this substantial exhibition catalogue traces Bomberg’s remarkable artistic journey from his groundbreaking Vorticist and Cubist-inspired early works through his experiences during the First World War and onto the expressive landscapes and portraits that defined his later career.

Richard Cork, one of Britain’s foremost art historians, provides an authoritative and engaging account of Bomberg’s development, placing his work within the broader context of modern British art while examining the personal and historical influences that shaped his distinctive vision. David Bomberg includes an extensive chronology, detailed catalogue of exhibited works, bibliography, and numerous high-quality colour and black-and-white reproductions, making it an invaluable resource for collectors, researchers, students, and enthusiasts of modern art.

Produced by Tate Gallery Publications, David Bomberg accompanied the major exhibition held between February and May 1988 and has since become a respected reference work on Bomberg’s career. Whether your interest lies in Vorticism, Expressionism, British Modernism, or twentieth-century painting, this beautifully designed volume offers exceptional insight into an artist whose influence continues to be recognised today.
