Death in the Long Grass by legendary safari writer Peter Hathaway Capstick is widely regarded as one of the greatest books ever written about dangerous game hunting in Africa.
First published in 1977 by St. Martin’s Press, the book recounts Capstick’s thrilling and often terrifying encounters with Africa’s most dangerous animals including lion, leopard, buffalo and elephant. Written with vivid detail and dark humour, Capstick’s stories bring readers directly into the African bush and have made Death in the Long Grass a classic of modern hunting and safari literature.
The book includes photographs by M. Philip Kahl and remains one of Capstick’s most influential works, still widely collected by enthusiasts of African adventure writing and big game hunting history.
Hardcover first edition without dust jacket. The boards show typical shelf wear and light handling marks. The text block edges are noticeably discolored from age and handling. Internally the book remains generally clean; however, the section comprising pages 113 to 132 is detached from the binding, though all pages are present. Despite this flaw the book remains complete and readable.
