A complete three-volume Afrikaans Bible set, Die Bybel met Verklarende Aantekeninge, published in 1958–1959 by Verenigde Protestantse Uitgewers (Kaapstad). This scholarly edition features extensive explanatory notes compiled by a panel of respected theologians including Prof. Dr. B. Gemser, Prof. Dr. A.S. Geyser, and others.
The set is divided as follows:
Deel I: Genesis tot Ester (1958)
Deel II: Job tot Maleagi (1958)
Deel III: Mattheüs tot Openbaring (1959, with tables, registers, and maps)
Bound in original black cloth with gilt titling, these volumes represent an important mid-20th century Afrikaans theological reference work, widely used in academic and church contexts.
Die Bybel is highly collectible as a complete set, especially appealing to collectors of Africana, theological works, and early Afrikaans religious publications.
Overall good, solid set. Original black cloth bindings remain intact with light shelf wear and some rubbing, particularly to edges and spine ends. Gilt titling still visible. Internally clean and complete, though there are notable adhesive/tape residue marks and offsetting to the front and rear endpapers of all three volumes. Light age-related toning and occasional foxing present. Bindings are firm and usable.
