Die Grondbeginsels van Rugby – Danie Craven’s classic Afrikaans guide to the fundamentals of rugby, published by Nasionale Pers Bpk. in light blue cloth with a sand-coloured spine.
1 in stock
Die Grondbeginsels van Rugby is Danie Craven’s Afrikaans manual on the fundamental principles of the game, published by Nasionale Pers Bpk., whose imprint appears at the foot of the spine. As the title and copyright pages are lacking in this copy, the exact edition and year cannot be stated; an ownership inscription dated 13/1/58 on the rear endpaper places it before 1958.
The contents page lists a Voorwoord and Inleiding followed by chapters on Die Koning van die Spele, forward play in the scrum (Die Skrum), the lineout (Die Lynstaan) and general forward principles including kick-offs, penalty kicks, loose scrums and rushes, then Die Kern van Rugby and back play, with sections on defence, tackling, defensive kicking, falling on the ball, attack and the sidestep (Die Swenk). The text is entirely in Afrikaans.
Die Grondbeginsels van Rugby carries a printed dedication to mnr. A.F. Markötter (Oubaas Mark), described in the dedication as the alpha and omega of Stellenbosch rugby, from whom Craven writes that he learned so much and to whom he owed so much.
Condition – Good
Publisher’s light blue cloth boards lettered in black, the spine sand-coloured with title, author and publisher lettered in black. Light wear to the extremities. The front free endpaper and the preliminary leaves up to and including the title and copyright pages have been removed, so the edition and date are not stated. The dedication leaf and contents pages are present. Rear endpaper with an ownership inscription dated 13/1/58. Otherwise a sound copy in good condition. Priced to reflect the missing preliminary leaves of Die Grondbeginsels van Rugby.
