Down South Two – More Homes and Interiors in South Africa by Paul Duncan

Down South Two: More Homes and Interiors in South Africa by Paul Duncan, with photography by internationally acclaimed interiors photographer Fritz von der Schulenburg, is a lavishly illustrated exploration of some of South Africa’s most distinctive houses, interiors and architectural spaces. Published by Jonathan Ball Publishers in 2007, this large-format hardcover follows the successful Down South: Homes and Interiors in South Africa and offers another striking survey of South African residential style.

Duncan and von der Schulenburg travel across the country to reveal an exceptionally varied selection of homes, ranging from sophisticated urban residences on the Highveld and relaxed Plettenberg Bay beach houses to historic Cape Dutch properties in Cape Town and the Winelands. Down South Two demonstrates how South African interiors combine architecture, landscape, furniture, art, antiques, natural materials and contemporary design to create spaces with a distinctive sense of place.

Among the properties and subjects featured are celebrated historic homes including Groote Schuur, Stellenberg and Morgenster, alongside modern architectural work and luxurious game-lodge interiors. Down South Two also showcases the work of notable South African architects and decorators, making it particularly valuable as a visual record of early 21st-century South African design.
