Morton T. Kelsey’s Dreams: The Dark Speech of the Spirit: A Christian Interpretation is regarded as one of the pioneering Christian works exploring the spiritual significance of dreams through the combined lenses of theology, psychology and the writings of Carl Jung. Published in 1968 by Doubleday, this scarce first edition examines the role of dreams throughout Scripture and Christian history, arguing that dreams remain an important means through which individuals may encounter divine guidance and personal transformation.
Drawing upon biblical accounts, pastoral experience and Jungian psychology, Kelsey presents a thoughtful and accessible interpretation of dreams as a meaningful aspect of the Christian spiritual journey. Dreams: The Dark Speech of the Spirit has remained influential among readers interested in dream interpretation, Christian mysticism, pastoral counselling, depth psychology and spiritual formation. It laid the foundation for Kelsey’s later and better-known work, God, Dreams, and Revelation, making this original edition increasingly difficult to obtain.
This first edition retains its original dark blue cloth binding with silver spine lettering and is complete with the original dust jacket. Copies of the 1968 first edition appear only infrequently on the market, making Dreams: The Dark Speech of the Spirit an attractive acquisition for collectors of twentieth-century theology, Jungian studies and scarce Christian literature.
An excellent addition to any collection of religious studies, psychology, dream interpretation or spiritual classics, this uncommon first edition Dreams: The Dark Speech of the Spirit represents an important early contribution to the dialogue between Christian faith and analytical psychology.
Condition – Very Good
