1 in stock
A scarce 1951 first edition of Duesenberg: The Mightiest American Motor Car by J. L. Elbert, published by The Motor Classic Bookhouse, Dan R. Post Publications, Arcadia, California. This early 168-page softcover edition is considerably less commonly encountered than the later printings and revised hardcover editions that followed, making it especially desirable to collectors of serious motoring literature.
Published when surviving Duesenberg automobiles were only beginning to receive widespread recognition as major collector cars, Elbert’s work is one of the important early books devoted entirely to this legendary American marque. The book explores the history, development and engineering achievements of Duesenberg, whose automobiles came to represent the pinnacle of American performance, luxury and coachbuilt design during the 1920s and 1930s.
The volume is richly illustrated, including work by respected automotive designer and illustrator Strother MacMinn, together with historical photographs and detailed material documenting notable Duesenberg models and their development.
The significance of this copy lies particularly in its original 1951 publication date and surviving illustrated wrappers. Later editions are encountered with some regularity, while examples of the original 1951 issue are substantially more difficult to find, particularly in presentable, complete condition.
An excellent addition to a collection of rare automotive books, American motoring history, pre-war luxury cars, coachbuilding, classic automobiles or Duesenberg memorabilia.
Condition – Very Good
Very good 1951 softcover with original illustrated card covers. Light edge and surface wear, particularly at the corners and extremities. Prior ownership inscription in ink on the front endpaper. Some staining to the text-block edges. Binding remains firm and the contents are generally clean and well preserved.
