Earth Surface Sediment Transport by Ian Statham is a clear introduction to the processes that move sediment and solutes across the surface of the earth. Published by the Clarendon Press, Oxford, as part of the Contemporary Problems in Geography series edited by William Birch, it was first published in 1977. This copy is the paperback reprint with corrections of 1979, printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay (The Chaucer Press), Bungay, Suffolk.
Earth Surface Sediment Transport explains the mechanical and chemical principles behind transport processes, with particular attention to the materials being moved and how their properties affect transport. These principles are then applied to two broad groups of processes: gravitational movements such as rapid and slow mass movement, and processes acting through a fluid, including solute transport in water and sediment transport by water, wind and ice.
Written for readers with little background in physics or chemistry, Earth Surface Sediment Transport will suit students of geography and geology taking courses in process geomorphology and physical geology, as well as teachers, environmental scientists and anyone collecting classic earth science texts of the 1970s.
