Fairey Aircraft Since 1915 by H. A. Taylor is an important and highly detailed history of one of Britain’s most significant aircraft manufacturers. Published by Putnam in London in 1974, this first edition forms part of the highly regarded series of individual British aircraft-manufacturer histories that have become established reference works among aviation historians, modellers and collectors.
Across 450 pages, Taylor traces the development of Fairey aircraft from the company’s beginnings during the First World War through an extraordinary range of military, naval and experimental designs. Individual aircraft types are examined in detail, including the Fairey Flycatcher, Fox, Gordon, Swordfish, Battle, Seafox, Albacore, Fulmar, Barracuda, Firefly, Gannet, Gyrodyne, Rotodyne and Delta Two. Fairey Aircraft Since 1915 also covers numerous prototypes and lesser-known Fairey projects, making it considerably more than a general company history.
Fairey Aircraft Since 1915 is extensively illustrated with black-and-white photographs and technical material, including the three-view drawings for which the Putnam aircraft histories are particularly valued. It concludes with a consolidated listing of Fairey constructor’s numbers, associated serial numbers and registrations, aircraft types and variants, providing an excellent research resource for serious aviation enthusiasts. Contemporary reviewers praised the work for its comprehensive coverage, photographs and scale drawings.
