The Science Fiction and Fantasy World of Tim White presents a striking collection of work by acclaimed British fantasy and science-fiction illustrator Tim White, whose imaginative paintings became closely associated with speculative fiction publishing during the late twentieth century.
White’s highly detailed artwork combines futuristic technology, strange landscapes, fantastic creatures, human figures and surreal dream imagery. Much of his work was created for book jackets and other commercial commissions, making this volume particularly appealing to collectors interested not only in science fiction and fantasy, but also in the history of paperback and publishing illustration. His distinctive style helped define the visual language of fantasy and science-fiction books during the 1970s and 1980s.
This generously illustrated large-format volume allows the artwork to be appreciated on a scale far larger than the original book covers for which many of the images were created. It is an attractive reference for collectors of fantasy art, science-fiction illustration, retro publishing design and the work of Tim White specifically.
This Paper Tiger Books edition was published as an imprint of Dragon’s World Ltd and represents one of the principal published collections of White’s artwork. The copyright page records reprints in 1989, 1990 and 1992.
Condition – Good
The binding remains sound and the pages appear clean and well preserved. The laminated illustrated card covers show shelf wear, rubbing and creasing, particularly around the edges and corners. The clear plastic laminate is slightly lifting and separating from the printed cover surface in places, with visible surface crazing to the front cover. There is additional rubbing along the spine and extremities. The defects are cosmetic and the book remains a solid, presentable reading and reference copy.
