The Kalk Bay Historical Association Bulletin No. 20 was published in March 2016 and compiled and edited by Barrie Gasson. Each year the Association gathers the transcripts of its talks into a bulletin, and this issue covers the talks given during 2015 and 2016. It was printed by Top Copy in Claremont and carries ISSN 1028-3269.
The largest part of the Kalk Bay Historical Association Bulletin No. 20 is James Hallinan’s history of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, which runs to more than a hundred pages. Graham Avery follows with “Of Fish Traps and Tidal Pools”, and Mike Walker writes on the Bible Institute of South Africa and the work of the Reverend Thomas Edward Marsh (1853 to 1935). The bulletin ends with notes on the contributors, a list of the contents of Bulletins 1 to 19, and a numerical reference to photographs of Kalk Bay and St James held at the Western Cape Archives and Records Service.
These bulletins are a valuable record of the False Bay coast and the southern Cape Peninsula. They are written by people who know the area well and are printed in small numbers for members and local readers.
The Kalk Bay Historical Association Bulletin No. 20 will interest collectors of Cape Africana, anyone researching Kalk Bay, St James, Simon’s Town or Cape Point, and readers with a love of South African local history.
