La Fontaine’s Tales, Volumes One and Two

This handsome two‑volume set presents Jean de La Fontaine’s longer narrative poems in English verse, including tales drawn from classical, Italian, and Eastern sources. The volumes are thought to include original engravings reminiscent of Charles‑Dominique‑Joseph Eisen’s work. Bound in the publisher’s original cloth, surviving copies often show mild edge wear, occasional toning or spotting, and possible previous owner markings. This edition offers refined poetic storytelling beyond La Fontaine’s more familiar fables, appealing to collectors and lovers of classical French literature.
