Leatherwork Manual by Al Stohlman, A. D. Patten and J. A. Wilson was published by the Tandy Leather Company of Fort Worth, Texas. First copyrighted in 1969, this is the revised 1984 edition, printed in the United States in a large-format softcover.
Written as a complete course in leathercraft, Leatherwork Manual runs to over 150 pages across nine chapters. It begins with the story of leather and an introduction to leather carving, then moves through preparing leather and transferring designs, sharpening and using the swivel knife, and the full range of stamping tools from beveler and pear shader to veiner, seeder and background tool.
Al Stohlman is regarded as one of the great masters of leather carving, and his instructional books for Tandy remain the standard references in the craft. Prepared with input from industrial arts educators, Leatherwork Manual was designed as a classroom textbook, with review topics closing each chapter, which makes it unusually thorough and well organised.
Condition – Very Good
A very good copy of the 1984 revised edition in stiff card covers. There is some liquid staining along the top edge of the front cover, which has barely reached the pages and is only faintly visible, and some further liquid staining to the rear cover. Old handwritten price notes appear in the top corner of the front cover. Internally the book is very clean and the binding is secure.
