“Love, Let Me Not Hunger” – A striking 1964 Book Club edition of Paul Gallico’s moving circus novel, complete with its dramatic original dust jacket.
1 in stock
Originally published in 1963, “Love, Let Me Not Hunger” is one of Paul Gallico’s most unusual and moving novels. Set within the world of a travelling circus, the book follows a troupe of performers whose lives are bound together by hardship, loneliness, loyalty and love. Rather than celebrating the glamour of the circus, Gallico portrays the difficult and often rootless existence of the people behind the spectacle.
“Love, Let Me Not Hunger” centres on the emotional struggles and relationships of the circus community, creating a deeply human story filled with compassion and insight. Gallico, best known for “The Snow Goose”, “Jennie” and the Mrs Harris novels, brings his trademark warmth and sensitivity to this darker and more realistic work.
This 1964 Book Club edition retains its striking original dust jacket featuring the dramatic image of a circus tent ablaze, with performers fleeing the flames. The vivid jacket design makes “Love, Let Me Not Hunger” an appealing display copy despite its flaws.
Condition – Good
Good hardcover in a Good unclipped dust jacket. The original dust jacket is moderately worn with rubbing, edge wear, chipping and small tears, particularly at the spine ends and corners. It has been reinforced internally with tape at the top and bottom edges. The blue cloth boards remain sound, although the spine is slightly faded. Internally there is a date stamp to the front endpaper, and foxing is present to the endpapers and throughout the text block. The binding remains firm and the book is perfectly readable.
