Following the success of “Mrs Harris Goes to Paris”, Gallico once again brings to life the irrepressible Ada Harris, the warm-hearted London charwoman whose adventures and common sense have charmed generations of readers.
In this volume, Mrs Harris travels across the Atlantic to New York City, where her kindness, determination and straightforward manner soon transform the lives of those around her. Filled with Gallico’s trademark humour and gentle humanity, the novel captures the excitement of 1960s New York while celebrating the resilience and optimism of its unforgettable heroine.
This is the true first Michael Joseph edition of Mrs Harris Goes to New York, published in 1960, bound in the publisher’s pale cream cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and the small decorative motif still bright and clear. Mrs Harris books remain highly collectible, particularly early British editions.
