Published in 1962 by the Town and Regional Planning Commission of Natal, Natal North Coast Survey examines the development, geography, and planning considerations of the Natal North Coast. Authored by R. A. Pistorius, Assistant Provincial Town and Regional Planner, the report forms part of the official Natal Town and Regional Planning Reports series (Volume 8).
Natal North Coast Survey provides an in-depth analysis of the region’s physical geography, historical development, land ownership patterns, coastal resorts, infrastructure, and long-term planning strategies for the North Coast. Sections cover subjects such as population distribution, communications and power, the sugar industry, coastal tourism, and proposed development standards for resorts and settlements.
Particularly valuable for researchers of KwaZulu-Natal regional development, coastal planning history, and South African urban planning, the book offers a snapshot of government thinking during the early 1960s as tourism and development expanded along the Natal coastline.
Natal North Coast Survey is illustrated with photographs and analytical material supporting the planning survey.
Original gay cloth boards with blue title lettering remain structurally sound with light wear. The dust jacket is present and intact but shows moderate age toning and wear, particularly along the edges. The lower section of the boards shows water staining/bleaching as visible in photographs. Internally the pages are clean, well bound, and free of major defects aside from light age-related spotting. A prior ownership bookplate is present on the front endpaper.
