The South African National Museum of Military History / Die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Museum vir Krygsgeskiedenis: Annual Report / Jaarverslag 1975–1976
Published in Johannesburg in 1976 by the South African National Museum of Military History, this 52-page bilingual booklet presents the museum’s official annual report covering the 1975–1976 reporting period. Produced with separate Afrikaans and English sections beginning from opposing covers (a tête-bêche format), it reflects the bilingual publishing style commonly used by South African government institutions during the period.
The South African National Museum of Military History 1975-1976 documents the museum’s administration, acquisitions, exhibitions, conservation work, research activities, staffing, finances, and developments during an important period in South African military history. It provides valuable insight into the growth of one of the country’s foremost military museums and includes information relating to the South African Defence Force, military collections, donors, historical preservation, and museum management. The publication also features attractive cover artwork by Nils Solberg, adding visual appeal to this specialist reference.
Today, annual reports of the South African National Museum of Military History are increasingly sought after by collectors of militaria, museum publications, South African institutional history, and researchers studying military heritage during the 1970s. Their relatively limited print runs and specialist nature make surviving copies less common than mainstream historical publications.
An excellent addition to any South African military history collection, museum archive, or reference library.
