No Second Place Winner by William H. “Bill” Jordan is one of the most respected and collectible firearms and Border Patrol memoirs of the twentieth century. Written by legendary U.S. Border Patrol officer and exhibition shooter Bill Jordan, this work combines firsthand frontier law enforcement experiences with practical firearms insight, hunting stories, and reflections on survival, marksmanship, and the realities of policing remote border regions in mid-century America.
Jordan’s reputation as both a lawman and firearms authority has made No Second Place Winner highly sought after among collectors of shooting sports literature, Western Americana, military and law enforcement history, and classic hunting memoirs. His influence on revolver shooting and defensive firearms training remains significant decades after publication, and No Second Place Winner is regarded as a cornerstone title in the field.
This 1965 hardcover example is especially desirable due to the lengthy handwritten inscription and signature from the author on the endpaper, adding strong provenance and collectible appeal. The inscription reflects Jordan’s warm and personal style and elevates No Second Place Winner beyond a standard reading copy into a meaningful association piece. The attractive blue cloth boards with bright gilt titling and Border Patrol emblem remain particularly neat and well preserved.
The book also contains period photographic illustrations and captures a fascinating era of American border history, fieldcraft, and firearms culture. Collectors of signed firearms books, Border Patrol memorabilia, and classic American sporting literature will find this a standout addition to their shelves.
Condition – Very Good
Very Good signed and inscribed 1965 hardcover. Lengthy ink inscription signed by the author on the endpaper.
