Insects in Relation to Plant Disease by Walter Carter is a specialised scientific work examining the important relationship between insects and the transmission, development and spread of diseases affecting plants.
Insects in Relation to Plant Disease explores the role of insects as vectors of plant pathogens and considers the complex relationships between insects, disease-causing organisms and their plant hosts. Subjects include insect transmission of plant disease, feeding behaviour, host relationships, vector biology and the broader importance of insects in agricultural plant pathology.
Insects in Relation to Plant Disease is particularly relevant to entomologists, plant pathologists, agricultural researchers and collectors of historical scientific literature.
Insects in Relation to Plant Disease remains an interesting reference work for the history of entomology, plant pathology and crop protection.
This copy is particularly noteworthy for the personal inscription on the front endpaper. Insects in Relation to Plant Disease bears what appears to be Walter Carter’s signature within a presentation inscription to “Jack”, apparently from Carter and “Minnie”. The surrounding inscription appears to have been written in a different hand. Although the signature has not been independently authenticated, the wording and arrangement suggest a potentially interesting family or personal association copy.
Condition – Very Good Plus
Hardcover in a Good dust jacket. The two-tone green boards and darker green spine are exceptionally well preserved, with only very light signs of handling. The blind-stamped insect design to the front board remains crisp and attractive, while the spine lettering is clear.
The original dust jacket shows moderate general wear, rubbing, creasing and edge wear, with small losses and delicate reinforcement to weakened areas. Internally, the binding remains firm and the pages are generally clean, although foxing is present.
The front endpaper bears a personal presentation inscription reading in part “For Jack, With affection from his uncle”, followed by what appears to be Walter Carter’s signature, and continuing with a reference to “the l’il girl who plays the piano” and the name “Minnie”. The surrounding inscription appears to be in a different hand from the signature. The signature has not been independently authenticated.
