A handsome Edwardian full calf leather library set of The Poetical Works of Robert Browning by the celebrated Victorian poet Robert Browning, published in London by Smith, Elder & Co. in 1901–1902.
Bound in rich brown full calf leather, the covers are decorated with elegant gilt “RB” monograms, while the spines carry gilt titles that remain clear though slightly faded with age. The volumes retain their all edges gilt (AEG), still bright and highly attractive, giving the set a refined appearance typical of finely produced Edwardian gift editions.
Internally Poetical Works of Robert Browning remain well bound and structurally sound. The decorative maroon cloth endpapers with gilt floral design remain vibrant and intact, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the bindings. Light foxing is present to the preliminary pages and margins, as commonly encountered in books of this period, but the text remains clean and fully readable throughout.
This complete two-volume London edition includes engraved portrait plates and presents very well as a decorative and collectible set. Browning’s influential dramatic monologues and poetry secured his reputation as one of the foremost voices of Victorian literature, and this finely bound edition offers an elegant way to enjoy his work.
Poetical Works of Robert Browning – A very attractive shelf set, ideal for collectors of Victorian poetry, antique leather bindings, or decorative Edwardian library books.
