This elegant 1895 two-volume edition of The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott is edited by the renowned Scottish author, folklorist, and literary scholar Andrew Lang, and published by Adam & Charles Black of London and Edinburgh. Issued during the late Victorian period, this edition presents Scott’s celebrated narrative and lyrical poetry in an attractive decorative binding typical of quality private library and gift editions of the era.
Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) was one of the most influential literary figures of the Romantic period, and Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott—such as The Lay of the Last Minstrel, Marmion, and The Lady of the Lake—played a major role in shaping nineteenth-century historical romance and narrative verse. Andrew Lang’s editorial work provides scholarly context through introductions and notes, adding literary value to this Victorian edition.
Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott Vol I & II are bound in handsome half leather with marbled boards and matching marbled endpapers, with gilt titles and decorative crests stamped to the spines. The volumes retain their gilt top edges, which remain bright and well preserved, enhancing their classic Victorian library appearance.
Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott display beautifully and would make an excellent addition to a decorative antique library, Victorian literature collection, or Scottish literary collection.

Condition – Very Good
Both volumes are in very good and structurally sound condition with firm bindings. Volume I shows some loss to the leather at the spine head and tail, while the remaining leather remains attractive with clear gilt titling. Foxing is present throughout both volumes, consistent with books of this age. The gilt top edges remain bright and well preserved. The marbled boards and endpapers remain clean and visually striking.
