Shadows of War – Peter Badcock (Limited Signed Edition No. 1311 of 1500, 1978) is one of the most sought-after illustrated books produced during the Rhodesian Bush War era. Published by Galaxie Press in Salisbury, Rhodesia, this deluxe edition combines Peter Badcock’s evocative artwork with accompanying text edited by Robin Graham, capturing the daily realities, landscapes and personalities of one of Africa’s most controversial conflicts.
Unlike the standard edition, this collector’s issue was produced in a strictly limited edition of only 1,500 individually numbered and author-signed copies. Shadows of War is fully bound in tan leather with the author’s name blind-stamped to the front board and presented in the original matching slipcase. Printed on high-quality 170gsm coated art paper, the volume showcases Badcock’s renowned paintings and sketches with exceptional clarity.
Peter Badcock’s work is widely regarded as among the finest artistic records of the Rhodesian Security Forces, making this volume highly desirable to collectors of Rhodesiana, African military history and limited edition illustrated books. Complete copies retaining the original slipcase continue to be increasingly difficult to obtain, particularly signed examples.
This copy of Shadows of War is No. 1311 of 1,500, signed by Peter Badcock on the title page. A desirable investment-grade volume that will appeal to collectors of Rhodesiana, military art, African history and fine press publications.
