Sniper One: The Blistering True Story of a British Battle Group Under Siege

Sniper One: The Blistering True Story of a British Battle Group Under Siege is one of the most gripping and authentic modern military memoirs to emerge from the Iraq War. Written by a serving British Army sniper, this bestselling first-hand account chronicles the harrowing experiences of the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment during the Battle of Al Amarah in southern Iraq in 2004. Cut off, heavily outnumbered and under constant attack, Mills and his fellow soldiers fought for survival while defending their isolated base against relentless enemy assaults.

Unlike many military histories written from a distance, Sniper One places the reader directly alongside the men on the front line. Mills vividly recounts the physical demands, emotional pressures and split-second decisions faced by soldiers operating under siege, while also capturing the camaraderie, humour and professionalism that sustained them throughout one of the British Army’s toughest deployments since the Falklands War. His straightforward, honest writing style makes this both an exciting combat narrative and a deeply personal memoir.

Illustrated with a fascinating section of colour photographs, Sniper One provides valuable visual insight into the soldiers, equipment and locations featured in the story. Praised by bestselling author Andy McNab as one of the finest first-hand combat accounts ever written, Sniper One has become essential reading for military enthusiasts, students of modern conflict and readers interested in British military operations in Iraq.

A highly regarded bestseller, this Penguin edition remains a sought-after title for collectors of military history, Iraq War literature and modern British Army memoirs.
