1 in stock
A scarce and historically significant 1904 hardcover edition of Speeches of the Late Right Honourable Harry Escombe, edited by J. T. Henderson, Hansard Reporter to the Natal Legislative Assembly, and printed in Maritzburg by P. Davis and Sons. This important Africana title preserves the speeches and political thought of Harry Escombe, one of the most influential political and legal figures in the Colony of Natal during the late nineteenth century.
Sir Harry Escombe served as Attorney-General and Prime Minister of Natal and played a central role in shaping colonial governance, legal development, and political policy in South Africa prior to Union. His speeches provide valuable insight into the political climate of colonial Natal, British imperial administration, economic development, and the broader social and legislative concerns of the era. Speeches of the Late Right Honourable Harry Escombe also contains an introductory note by the Hon. Sir J. Robinson, adding further historical context and significance.
Books such as Speeches of the Late Right Honourable Harry Escombe, relating specifically to Natal colonial politics and locally printed Pietermaritzburg imprints remain highly sought after by collectors of Africana, South African political history, and colonial ephemera. This example retains its original dark leather-look cloth binding with gilt titling to the spine still clear and attractive despite age-related wear. The secure binding and complete text make this a desirable research and collector’s copy.
Speeches of the Late Right Honourable Harry Escombe is an increasingly difficult title to source, particularly in complete original hardcover format, and an appealing addition to any serious Africana, KwaZulu-Natal, or South African political history collection.
