The End of the Story – Daniel Mills & Sons 1992-2009 was written by Angela Carr Lambson and published privately by Daniel Mills & Sons in 2010, with design and typesetting by Lucid Vision (SA). It is a 36-page softcover with gilt titling and the company’s anchor emblem on the front board.
As the title suggests, The End of the Story records the closing chapter of the firm, covering the years 1992 to 2009. Produced by the company for its own circle rather than for general sale, it is the kind of privately issued business history that rarely appears in the trade.
Daniel Mills & Sons was a long-established Cape Town family business. Heritage records place a Mills bakery in District Six in 1896, another in Green Point around 1899, and a grain store before 1908, and the firm remained under family management well into the twentieth century. The End of the Story adds a final page to the record of one of Cape Town’s older family enterprises.
Condition – Near Fine
A near fine, clean copy of this softcover. The boards are bright and fresh with only the faintest signs of handling, the spine is straight and uncreased, and the binding is tight. The pages are clean and unmarked, with no inscriptions or bookplates.
