The Fall of Berlin 1945 by acclaimed British military historian Antony Beevor is a compelling and meticulously researched account of the final months of the Second World War in Europe, culminating in the destruction of Nazi Germany and the capture of Berlin by the Soviet Red Army in May 1945.
Published by Viking in 2002, The Fall of Berlin 1945 explores one of the most devastating military campaigns in modern European history. Drawing upon previously inaccessible Soviet archives, German military records, eyewitness accounts and personal testimonies, Beevor reconstructs the desperate final struggle of Hitler’s Third Reich.
The narrative follows the Soviet advance through Poland and eastern Germany, the brutal fighting along the Oder River, the Battle of the Seelow Heights and the ultimate assault on Berlin. Beevor examines the decisions of leading military commanders, including Soviet Marshals Georgy Zhukov and Ivan Konev, while portraying the increasing desperation within Hitler’s inner circle as defeat became inevitable.
The Fall of Berlin 1945 includes historical maps, detailed references and an index, making it a valuable resource for military historians, researchers, students and collectors of Second World War literature.
Written by the internationally celebrated author of Stalingrad, The Fall of Berlin 1945 remains an important contribution to the historical understanding of the Eastern Front, the Battle of Berlin and the final defeat of Nazi Germany.
