The Grand Prix Car 1954–1966 by L.J.K. Setright is widely considered one of the most authoritative and intellectually engaging works on the evolution of Formula One during one of its most transformative periods. First published in 1968 by George Allen & Unwin, this substantial volume explores the rapid technological advancements that defined post-war Grand Prix racing, from the front-engined era through to the revolutionary rear-engined designs that reshaped the sport.
Setright’s writing stands apart for its analytical depth, blending engineering insight with historical narrative. The Grand Prix Car 1954–1966 covers major manufacturers such as Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, BRM, and Lotus, examining how innovation in chassis design, aerodynamics, and engine configuration pushed the boundaries of performance. Period photographs and technical illustrations enhance the text, making this not only a scholarly resource but also a visually compelling addition to any motorsport library.
Highly sought after by collectors, enthusiasts, and historians alike, The Grand Prix Car 1954–1966 remains a cornerstone reference for anyone interested in classic Formula One. Early editions, particularly those retaining their original dust jackets, are increasingly difficult to source—especially in complete and presentable condition. This example offers solid collectability and readability, making it ideal for both investment and enjoyment.
Condition – Very Good
Dust jacket worn around the spine edges and housed in a blue-tinted plastic protective cover. Green cloth boards with silver titling remain in good condition overall, though there are visible stain marks to the lower portions of both front and rear boards. Internally clean with no notable defects to the text, aside from a prior ownership inscription in ink on the inner cover. Overall a good, complete copy with honest wear.
