The Kaffrarian Rifles 1876-1986 by Francis L. Coleman (Signed First Edition)

The Kaffrarian Rifles 1876-1986 by Francis L. Coleman is the definitive history of one of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished volunteer military units. Published in 1988 by the Kaffrarian Rifles Association to commemorate the regiment’s long and proud service, this substantial work traces the evolution of the unit from its origins in the Eastern Cape frontier era through both World Wars and into the modern South African Defence Force period.

Drawing upon regimental records, personal accounts, photographs, and historical documentation, Coleman presents a detailed narrative of the regiment’s involvement in frontier conflicts, the Anglo-Boer War, both World Wars, and numerous periods of service that shaped the military history of the Eastern Cape. The Kaffrarian Rifles provides valuable insights into the traditions, customs, honours, and personalities associated with the Kaffrarian Rifles, making it an indispensable reference for military historians, genealogists, collectors, and former members of the regiment.

This copy is especially desirable as it is signed by the author, Francis L. Coleman, on the title page. The Kaffrarian Rifles remains highly collectible due to its relatively limited print run and regional historical significance. Military history titles focusing on South African regiments continue to attract strong interest from collectors worldwide, particularly those relating to volunteer units with distinguished service records.

An excellent addition to any collection of South African military history, regimental histories, Rhodesiana, Africana, or Eastern Cape historical works.
