The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in the Second World War by Sir Frank Fox, published in 1951 by Gale and Polden Ltd, is the official regimental history of one of the British Army’s most distinguished infantry regiments during the global conflict of 1939–1945. Written in the immediate post-war period, this authoritative volume provides a detailed operational narrative of the regiment’s service across multiple theatres of war, preserving the record of its actions, sacrifices, and achievements.
Sir Frank Fox, an experienced military historian and war correspondent, presents a meticulously researched account drawn from war diaries, official dispatches, and first-hand testimony. The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers traces the battalions’ mobilization, training, and deployment, documenting their participation in campaigns across Europe, North Africa, and other fronts where the regiment served. Tactical engagements, command decisions, and battlefield conditions are described with clarity, offering both strategic context and regimental perspective.
Beyond operational history, The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers pays tribute to the officers and men of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, highlighting acts of courage, endurance under fire, and the esprit de corps that defined the regiment. Appendices, casualty rolls, maps, and photographic plates enhance its value as both a commemorative work and a serious historical reference.
The 1951 Gale and Polden Ltd edition, typically bound in sturdy cloth, reflects the formal style of mid-20th-century British regimental histories. For collectors of military history, regimental studies, and Second World War literature, this volume represents an important and authoritative primary-era account.
