To Remain a Jew – The Life of Rav Yitzchak Zilber

To Remain a Jew: The Life of Rav Yitzchak Zilber is an extraordinary autobiography that chronicles one man’s unwavering faith and courage under one of the most oppressive regimes of the twentieth century. Rav Yitzchak Zilber, one of the most influential spiritual leaders among Soviet and later Israeli Jewry, recounts his remarkable journey of preserving Jewish identity and Torah observance throughout decades of Communist persecution. His deeply personal story also serves as a moving historical account of the struggles endured by religious Jews behind the Iron Curtain.

Compiled from Rav Zilber’s own recorded recollections and translated from the acclaimed Russian and Hebrew editions, this English edition offers readers a compelling blend of memoir, history, and spiritual inspiration. To Remain a Jew follows his imprisonment, hardships, devotion to Jewish law, and his determination to educate and encourage fellow Jews despite constant danger. After emigrating to Israel, he became a central figure in reconnecting Russian-speaking Jews with their heritage, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire readers around the world.

Beautifully produced by Feldheim Publishers, this substantial hardcover volume of over 500 pages includes photographs and historical context that enrich the narrative and provide valuable insight into Jewish life under Soviet rule. To Remain a Jew appeals equally to readers interested in Jewish biography, Soviet history, religious perseverance, and inspirational literature.

An increasingly sought-after title among collectors of Judaica, Jewish history, and Holocaust-era and Soviet Jewish studies, To Remain a Jew is both an important historical document and a profoundly moving testament to faith, resilience, and the enduring power of religious conviction.
