Zambezi Days by Wilfrid Robertson is a scarce and highly collectable first edition account of hunting, travel and life in the wild country surrounding the Zambezi River, published by Blackie & Son Limited in London in 1936. An increasingly difficult title to obtain, it is particularly desirable to collectors of early Africana, Rhodesiana, African big-game hunting literature and historical travel narratives.
Robertson settled in Southern Rhodesia following the First World War and established a farm north of Sinoia, now Chinhoyi in modern Zimbabwe. From this base he travelled into the comparatively remote wilderness towards the Zambezi, recording his experiences of the landscape, wildlife and communities encountered along the way. Zambezi Days provides a fascinating period account of Southern Africa during the interwar years.
Zambezi Days contains extensive material concerning African wildlife and big-game hunting, including elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, hippopotamus, crocodile, leopard, lion and various antelope. Robertson also discusses rifles and the practical realities of travelling and hunting in remote country. His experiences provide both an adventure narrative and an important historical record of an era when large areas surrounding the Zambezi remained extremely isolated.
This 1936 first edition of Zambezi Days comprises 196 pages together with 16 leaves of photographic plates, illustrated from Robertson’s own photographs. Bibliographical records confirm this format, and specialist Africana dealers have described the title as seldom encountered.
An excellent addition to a collection devoted to Zimbabwe and Rhodesian history, African exploration, vintage hunting literature, Zambezi River history or twentieth-century Africana.

Original cloth boards show age-related fading, marking, rubbing and wear, particularly around the spine and extremities. Some foxing/spotting and general age toning internally. The photographic plates have undergone repairs. No dust jacket present.
