My Kitchen: Real Food from Near and Far is the debut cookbook from acclaimed British chef and restaurateur Stevie Parle, presenting an imaginative collection of recipes inspired by his professional cooking career, travels and fascination with food cultures from around the world.
First published by Quadrille Publishing in 2010 as part of the New Voices in Food series, My Kitchen: Real Food from Near and Far captures Parle at the beginning of a career that would establish him as a distinctive voice in contemporary British cooking. His culinary background included experience at highly regarded restaurants such as The River Café, Moro and Petersham Nurseries, influences that can be seen throughout his ingredient-led and internationally inspired approach to food.
Rather than concentrating on a single cuisine, My Kitchen moves between countries, traditions and flavours. Parle draws inspiration from his travels while also returning to deceptively simple classics, demonstrating how careful technique and good ingredients can transform everyday cooking. The recipes encompass vegetables, meat, fish, grains, spices, sauces and seasonal produce, combining Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Asian and British influences.
My Kitchen is arranged around the twelve months of the year, allowing seasonal ingredients to guide the recipes. Individual sections also explore particular ingredients and cooking techniques in greater depth, giving the book an educational element beyond a conventional recipe collection.
