Paul White was an Australian medical missionary who worked in East Africa. His firsthand experiences inspired the popular Jungle Doctor books, which became well-known among generations of readers, particularly within Christian families, schools and missionary communities.
This early publication features illustrations and illustrated map endpapers depicting the African setting of the adventures.
Jungle Doctor Meets a Lion is an interesting example of mid-twentieth-century Christian children’s literature, reflecting the missionary experiences and storytelling traditions of its period. Its combination of African adventure, wildlife encounters and faith-based teaching makes it appealing to collectors of vintage children’s books, readers of classic missionary fiction and enthusiasts of Paul White’s Jungle Doctor series.
An appealing early publication from the Jungle Doctor series, particularly for collectors seeking original Paternoster Press editions rather than modern reprints.
