Elizabeth Enright’s Tatsinda is a charming and imaginative fantasy novel that transports readers into a magical kingdom where folklore, enchantment and adventure intertwine. Richly illustrated by the celebrated artist Irene Haas, whose delicate and atmospheric artwork perfectly complements Enright’s storytelling, this beautifully produced edition has become highly desirable amongst collectors of classic children’s literature and illustrated books.
The story follows Tatsinda, a mysterious young girl living in an enchanted realm filled with magical creatures, ancient secrets and unforgettable characters. Enright’s lyrical writing captures the wonder of fairy tales while creating an original world that appeals equally to young readers and adults who appreciate timeless fantasy. Irene Haas’s full-colour and black-and-white illustrations are among the book’s greatest attractions, bringing the magical landscapes and characters vividly to life with exceptional elegance.
Originally published in the early 1960s, Tatsinda has remained one of Elizabeth Enright’s lesser-known yet highly regarded works. Copies in dust jacket have become increasingly difficult to find, particularly outside Europe and North America, making this an attractive acquisition for collectors of classic fantasy, illustrated children’s books and Heinemann publications.
This 1966 Heinemann London reprint retains all of the wonderful illustrations, which remain bright and well preserved. The attractive green cloth binding with black decoration complements the enchanting artwork found throughout the volume. Whether added to a private collection, gifted to a lover of vintage children’s literature, or enjoyed for its magical storytelling, Tatsinda remains a delightful example of twentieth-century illustrated fantasy.
